Switching back to these, because a) I'm painting from home; b) I gotta keep on my toes.

It's become apparent that drawing is the hardest part of this, so I'll just revisit faces once I'm done with hands.

Practice

I've been pretty lazy with drawing hands from imagination during these studies, and I have to say - you learn twice as fast when you draw one hand from imagination for every hand you copy.

Happy Turkey Day

I didn't make it in the two hours. There's a lot more details I could have added.


Breaking my hand routine because of something I'm doing at work. Turns out this is actually a really good exercise. Try doing a hard-surface form with lots of detail using as few brush strokes as you can within two hours. When you get good at that, you can do concept art.

A lot of restructuring is coming in my brain, but studies are still in order.

In order to make the most of the Massive Black Workshop, I'm gonna stop these until next Wednesday. I will also reassess my career priorities, and ask Katie if she's ever planning to post again.

Gotta get better at willpower. It's amazing what the human mind can do if you bend it to your will.

Doing Hogarth studies is pretty much about how many butt shapes you can draw at once without looking back at the book.

Not really sure why this came out as such crap. I think it was because the drawing was more difficult than usual.

I confess. I only gave an hour to Olaf today. But that's only because I got home at midnight after playing office D&D campaign..

I think it's time to move on...

I'm gonna keep going with this one because I'm having so much fun. Just ordered my light filters so I'm gonna be doing some REALLY crazy still lives later.

This guy embodies everything I could ever want in a study. Viking metal, long flowing hair, chiseled face and cloth. You only really need to do portrait and hand studies. You can extrapolate the rest of the materials, or get some ref.

Mount Viking

They're called "hard" surfaces for a reason. Because of the amount of drawing needed to do this, it will be another two-day affair.

For some reason, the values are much darker than they are in the photo, but I'm not sure that's a bad thing. I feel like he still looks realistic, because I can push the contrast on the highlights.

Mirror, Mirror

I had something funny to say, but I forgot. I'm finally doing a personal piece (woah) over this weekend, so I'm jumping into colours. Not old enough for it, but I gotta do it.

My work cintique is doing WONDERS to the colours.

Working on the pose, weight and the terminator values. They're hard. Still crap, but at least it's faster.

Refined and ruined it. Gonna stay in grayscale land... probably till the end of the month or so. Then I'll bust out my green lightbulb again.
